Around the Hotel

Hotel Castellano I is ideally placed for guests to explore the wonderful city of Salamanca on foot. The most traditional and comfortable walk of fifteen to twenty minutes along the main avenue takes you to the stunning Plaza Mayor, considered among the best in all of Spain. It is literally in the center of everything, and each and every corner of the old town, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is to be explored by you. You may spend hours walking along those golden sandstone streets and marvel at the wonderful architecture.

Every one of the city’s best-known and still most crucial attractions can be within a comfortable stroll. Salamanca Cathedral (both New and Old), and Salamanca University, which is among the oldest in the entire world, exist within just a few minutes on foot from Plaza Mayor. Key endeavor would be to spot the well-known ‘frog on the skull’ which has been etched inside the facade within the university. Along your journey into the center, you will come across another iconic building, the lovely Casa de las Conchas (House of Shells).

Also, for the dining and life of the locals, it’s pretty good. The avenues around the hotel do create a proper city neighborhood with cafes, bakeries, and small shops all around. Just a ten-minute walk will take you to Calle Van Dyck, where great student-friendly priced tapas bars abound, excellent to local students. So you get an authentic experience and dine like a budget traveler rather than restaurants dishing out food at tourist prices on the Plaza Mayor. The major El Corte Inglés is quite close, in practical terms.
